e components of the metabolic syndrome. 【Methods】 A sample of 459 men and women aged 40-70 years was randomly selected. Dairy consumption and other food groups were assessed by using a food-frequency questionnaire. Height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressure were measured. A fasting blood sample was collected for lipid and glucose measurements. The metabolic syndrome was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) 2005. Data were analyzed according to tertiles of medians of dairy products. 【Results】Dairy consumption was significantly and negatively associated with waist (P for trend = 0.035) and fasting plasma glucose (P for trend = 0.027) in total subjects after adjusting for age and dietary factors including total energy, meat, egg, vegetables, fruits and soy. Subjects with high dairy consumption had 4.3% and 5.0% lower in waist and fasting plasma glucose than those with never consumption of dairy products.
